Spring Lake Kayak Tours at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment

Explore the clear, spring-fed waters of Spring Lake during a Spring Lake Kayak Tour at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. This low-impact educational experience offers an opportunity to learn about the lake’s unique history, habitat, and local ecosystem while enjoying a guided kayak tour.

The 1.5-hour experience begins with an introduction to Spring Lake, followed by check-in, safety information, and paddling skills. Guests will then take an approximately hour-long guided kayak tour. The spring-fed waters remain 72 degrees year-round and are home to seven endangered and threatened species, as well as one of the longest persistently inhabited sites in North America.

The standard 1.5-hour Kayak Tour is $35 per person, with a $5 discount available for Texas State University students and military members. Life jackets, paddles, and kayaks are provided. Previous paddling experience is recommended.

Tours are open to paddlers ages 12 and older. Participants must be able to paddle their own boat and be comfortable around deep water. Participants should also be in good mental and physical condition for kayaking, and a signed waiver is required. Tours are limited to two to eight participants, with a minimum of two guests required. Registration closes two days before each tour date.

Upcoming 1.5-hour Kayak Tours are October 17 and 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., October 25 from 8:30 to 10 a.m., November 7, 14, and 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and November 8 and 15 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Parking permits are required in The Meadows Center parking lot Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. One-day temporary permits are available at the parking lot kiosk for $3 and can be purchased by credit card. For availability after registration closes, contact the Ticket Kiosk at (512) 245-7590.

The Spring Lake Kayak Tours take place at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment in San Marcos, Texas.
