“As the Pages Turn” Community Reading Circle at San Marcos Public Library

Adults interested in literature, philosophy, and thoughtful discussion can take part in “As the Pages Turn” Community Reading Circle at San Marcos Public Library. Formerly known as the Philosophy and Literature Circle, this free program brings together Texas State University faculty, students, and community members to discuss literature, debate philosophical ideas, and strengthen poetic and critical thinking skills.

The reading selection for this series is Charles Chesnutt’s “The Marrow of Tradition.” Participants should plan to attend most of the nine sessions, complete short reading and writing assignments, and engage in conversations with people from a variety of backgrounds. All reading and writing materials will be provided.

Sessions are held Mondays at 2 pm on October 19 and 26; November 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30; and December 7 and 14, 2026. The program is free and intended for adults.

Advance registration is required to reserve a seat. Participants can register using their library credentials, by phone, or in person at the library. For more information, call 512-393-8200 or visit the San Marcos Public Library website.
