Hosted at Hernandez Elementary in San Marcos\, this annual event honors the traditions of Day of the Dead while bringing together runners\, walkers\, families\, and supporters for a meaningful morning. \nProceeds benefit the Johnnie T. Rosales Memorial Scholarship\, a nonprofit organization that awards scholarships to graduating San Marcos High School seniors. This year’s event will also honor the late Mrs. Amanda Ruiz in recognition of her many years of service to the San Marcos community. Participants can wear their favorite Day of the Dead running attire\, sponsor a memory board in honor of a loved one\, or submit a name and photo for the event’s Day of the Dead altar. Guests can also take photos with the event mascots\, Catrina and Juanito\, and enjoy music by DJ Jesse “The Jammer” Cruz. \nRace-day activities begin with packet pickup at 7 am\, followed by opening remarks and the honoree announcement at 7:30 am\, a group warm-up at 7:50 am\, and the 5K Run/Walk at 8 am. The Kids Fun Run starts at 9 am\, with awards presented at 9:30 am. \nThe 5K entry fee is $40 for registrations from October 16 through race day. The Kids Fun Run is free for children ages 1–10\, who will receive a treat bag and compete for age-group awards. The 5K includes overall\, masters\, grand masters\, and age-group awards. Team awards will not be offered in 2026. \nPacket pickup is also available Wednesday\, October 28\, from 6 to 8 pm at Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos\, 211 Lee Street. Race-day registration is available online. Life jackets must be worn at all times\, and outside gear is not permitted except for prescription goggles. \nThe program is open to swimmers ages 12 and older. Participants must be comfortable in deep water and have previous snorkeling experience\, as well as be in good mental and physical condition for on-water activities. A signed waiver is required. SUMMARY:Splash into Science: Snorkel Tours at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment
DESCRIPTION:Experience the clear\, spring-fed waters of Spring Lake during Splash into Science: Snorkel Tours at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. This 1.5-hour educational snorkeling program offers an in-depth look at the lake’s unique ecosystem\, history\, flora\, and fauna while highlighting the importance of protecting its sensitive environment. \nTours include an introduction to Spring Lake and its habitat\, a guided tour of Discover Hall\, basic snorkeling skills\, and all necessary equipment. Participants will take a guided on-water tour of Diversion Springs\, Cream of Wheat Springs\, and the Ossified Forest for approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Gear includes a 5mm wetsuit\, goggles\, snorkel\, fins\, and a life jacket. Life jackets must be worn at all times\, and outside gear is not permitted except for prescription goggles. \nThe program is open to swimmers ages 12 and older. Participants must be comfortable in deep water and have previous snorkeling experience\, as well as be in good mental and physical condition for on-water activities. A signed waiver is required. Participants should arrive in a clean\, washed swimsuit to help prevent the spread of invasive species such as zebra mussels. \nTours are limited to 2 to 8 participants and cost $45 per person\, with a $5 discount available for Texas State University students and military members. Registration closes two days before each tour date. Classes require a minimum of two guests\, and participants will be notified if the minimum is not reached. For larger groups or questions about availability after registration closes\, contact the Spring Lake Education Office or the Ticket Kiosk at (512) 245-7590. \nUpcoming tour dates are October 1\, 10\, and 22 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.\, and October 18 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Parking permits are required in The Meadows Center lot Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; one-day temporary permits are available at the kiosk for $3. \nTours are held at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment\, 201 San Marcos Springs Dr.\, San Marcos\, TX 78666.
